The challenge
Sorting centres handle tens of thousands of parcels a day with inconsistent sizes, shapes and label positions. Manual measurement is slow and imprecise, which distorts both freight billing and load planning.
The MindX Vision solution
A six-side DWS station combines industrial cameras, dedicated lighting and an edge Industrial PC to read codes on all six faces while the parcel moves along the conveyor.
- Six high-resolution area scan cameras, encoder-synchronised triggering
- 3D dimensioning with ±5 mm accuracy
- Integrated dynamic weighing, matched per parcel
- 1D barcode, QR and DPM decoding with AI-based skew and distortion correction
- Data delivered to WMS/TMS over REST API or a message queue
Deployment figures
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Throughput | 4,000 - 6,000 parcels/hour |
| Parcel size | 50 x 50 x 30 mm up to 800 x 600 x 600 mm |
| Read rate | ≥ 99.7% |
| Dimensioning accuracy | ±5 mm |
| Cycle time | 150 ms per parcel |
Customer outcome
After three months at a northern sorting hub the system removed 85% of manual measuring work, recovered previously under-billed freight and provided photographic evidence for every parcel dispute.
Dimensions, weight and six-side imagery are stored against the tracking number and retrievable in seconds.
